CONTEST “LA QUÍMICA Y YO”
Within the framework of the XXX PERUVIAN CONGRESS OF CHEMISTRY – XXX CONGRESS OF THE LATIN AMERICAN SOCIETY OF ETHNOMEDICINE “OLGA LOCK DE UGAZ” (30 CPQ_SILAE) UGAZ” (30 CPQ_SILAE) to be held in Lima from 16 to 20 October 2023, the Peruvian Chemical Society Chemical Society of Peru (SQP) is calling for the third edition of the “Chemistry and I” competition.
The aim of this competition is for participants to share their perception of chemistry as applied in their lives. of applied chemistry in their lives, from their early interaction in the first years of life, in their experience at school to their reflections and/or experiences as students, professionals or amateurs of chemistry. students or professionals or amateurs of chemistry.
All interested persons can participate in one of the three categories (Senior, Junior or Kids). categories (Senior, Junior or Kids).
The call for entries will be open from 01 May to 30 June 2023 and the award ceremony will take place in October 2023. will take place in October 2023, during the 30th CPQ_SILAE.
1. OBJECTIVE
The aim of this competition is for participants to share their perception of applied chemistry in their lives, from their early interaction in the first years of life, in their experience at school to their reflections and/or experiences as students, professionals or amateurs of chemistry.
2. CATEGORY
The contest is divided into three categories::
-SENIOR: aimed at technical students, university students, professionals and the general public.
-JUNIOR: aimed at primary (4th, 5th and 6th grade) and secondary school students.
-KIDS: aimed at kindergarten and primary school children (1st to 6th grade).
Note: You can only participate once in each category. However, children at primary level (4th, 5th and 6th grade) can choose to participate in the Kids and/or Junior category. If they wish to participate in both categories, they must submit the entries required for each category. Likewise, adults can participate in both versions of the Senior level, SENIOR A – Chemical Experience and SENIOR B – Chemical Poem.
3. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORKS
Participants must send in electronic format a writing or drawing according to the category in which they are participating:
-SENIOR A – Chemistry experience: Write a note about chemistry in 150 words maximum containing your reflections and/or experience as a student or professional, an anecdote or a situation that you will remember forever, a successful or failed laboratory experiment, your emotions and dreams about chemistry, among others. We invite you to bring out the art in all of us in a fun and passionate note for any reader.
-SENIOR B – Chemistry Poem: For those who accept the challenge of combining literary art and chemistry in a poem of 150 words maximum. A text that can explain a chemical concept or relate everyday life to chemistry in an enjoyable way.
– JUNIOR: Write a note in no more than 150 words answering one or more of the following questions: what is chemistry to you? what is it for? where do you think it is applied?
– KIDS: On a piece of cardboard or A4 size bond paper you should draw a picture that answers one or more of the following questions: What is chemistry for you? Do you know anyone who works in chemistry? can you draw a picture of them?
4. DETAILS OF WORKS
-Categories SENIOR and JUNIOR: A text of maximum 150 words written in Arial 12 font and single-spaced as a PDF (.pdf) file. The file should be no larger than 10 MB in size.
-Categoríes KIDS: A hand-drawn drawing on cardboard or A4 size bond paper. The drawing must be scanned in good resolution in PDF, PNG, JPG or TIFF format. The file should be no larger than 10 MB. Keep the original until the announcement of the winners.
5. CONTEST ENTRY PROCEDURE
Participants (or the responsible guardian in the case of JUNIOR and KIDS participants) must enter the Google form provided to register their details and upload the electronic file of their proposal.
6. APPROVATION WORKS
For an entry to be accepted into the competition it must meet ALL of the above requirements. Please read carefully the sections Characteristics of Entries, Format of Entries and Competition Entry Procedure. Entries that do not meet the requirements will be automatically eliminated without notice.
7. VALUTATION
The score for each work will be obtained in the following way: a jury composed of professionals from different areas (chemistry, education, art) will assign 75% of the score. The remaining 25% will be obtained by public voting on the social networks of the SQP and the 30 CPQ_SILAE..
8. AWARD CEREMONY
Diplomas will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Honourable mentions will be considered if appropriate. The SQP will present the respective diplomas and prizes during the celebration of the 30th CPQ_SILAE in October 2023. Additionally, the first places in the SENIOR A and B categories will win a pass to attend the 30th CPQ_SILAE to be held in October 2023. Similarly, the tutors who entered the winning entries in the first place JUNIOR and KIDS categories will win a pass to attend the 30th CPQ_SILAE. The first place winner in the JUNIOR and KIDS categories will receive a surprise prize. The winning entries will be published and exhibited during the 30th CPQ_SILAE. For this purpose, the winning entries in the KIDS category (drawing) must be delivered to the SQP offices in their original format (cardboard or bond paper). In addition, these works will be published as winners on the SQP website and social networks.
